Dr. Carl Powell, Senior Consultant
Dr. Carl Powell serves as Senior Advisory Consultant to Harris Search Associates on senior leadership and information technology related assignments providing insight, national relationships, and vetting of candidates on behalf of client institution committees and our firm. He is a seasoned information technology leader with extensive experience in executive leadership, strategic planning, interpersonal communications, and project management.
Carl most recently served as the Chief Information Officer at the Columbus Metropolitan Library where he was responsible for all library IT systems supporting over 800 employees at 23 branch locations. Previously, he served as Chief Information Officer at Eastern Michigan University, a residential campus supporting over 23,000 students. He was responsible for a $13M annual budget for all college IT systems (including voice, data, video, and Internet) and managed a staff of 8 directors, 65 technical employees, and over 60 student employees.
He has also previously served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Metropolitan State University of Denver and at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, as well as technology management positions at IBM, KeyBank, and Medical Mutual.
Dr. Powell holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a Master of Science degree from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. from Cleveland State University.
