Howard University’s College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) continues to play a vital role in producing our nation’s top engineers and architects. The CEA ranks among the top producers of African American male and female engineers.
The CEA is one of Howard University’s 13 schools and colleges. The CEA comprises the five departments of Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. The CEA offers a fully accredited Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs. Graduate degree programs with abounding research opportunities offered in the engineering disciplines are Master of Science, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy. Certificates in Cybersecurity and other professional programs are also offered.
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of CEA serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the College. The Dean is responsible for developing and implementing innovative academic and financial strategies, recruiting faculty, students, and administrative staff, and developing an organizational structure that will serve to promote superior research and educational programs of the highest caliber.
The next CEA Dean will have an unprecedented opportunity to contribute as a partner to the senior administration team, to build upon the existing momentum at Howard, and serve as a catalyst in the continued enhancement of the University. Howard seeks a visionary Dean with the highest academic standards, demonstrated leadership acumen, experience making strategic decisions to optimize resource usage, dedication to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, a record of promoting outstanding interdisciplinary research, and an ability to promote the College externally to develop diversified funding opportunities, industry partnerships, and increase philanthropic support.
The next Dean will be collaborative in developing a team-focused commitment to transparent leadership and collegial faculty relations. The Dean will possess superior communication skills, political adeptness, entrepreneurial energy, and data-driven approaches to problem solving, as well as a demonstrated commitment to building, mentoring, motivating, and maintaining a culturally diverse faculty and staff.
Preferred candidates for the position will have an earned doctorate, a record consistent with the appointment as full professor in a College department, relevant administrative experience and national stature in the field of engineering, architecture, or computer sciences.
