Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine selects Harris Search Associates to lead Dean of Medicine search
The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) has selected to Harris Search Associates to lead the search for its next Dean of the College of Medicine (COM). ACOM is a private, non-profit medical school for osteopathic medicine located in the city of Dothan in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is the first osteopathic medical school in the state and is believed to be the first osteopathic medical school in the nation established by a regional not-for-profit hospital.

Located in Dothan Alabama, approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of the Georgia state line and 16 miles (26 km) north of Florida, ACOM provides quality, learner-centered osteopathic education, research, and service, while promoting graduate medical education, with emphasis on patient-centered, team-based primary care to serve the medically underserved areas of Alabama, the Tri-State area, and the nation. ACOM received its Private School licensure from the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education in December 2011, and provisional accreditation with the ability to recruit students from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation on July 1, 2012. Construction on the ACOM building in Dothan was completed in May 2013, and the college celebrated its historic grand opening on July 29, 2013. ACOM’s inaugural class began classes on August 5, 2013 and graduated in May 2017.
The Dean of ACOM serves as the chief academic and administrative officer and is responsible for developing and implementing academic and financial strategies, recruiting faculty, students and administrative staff, and developing an organizational structure that will serve and promote research, clinical and educational programs, and high-quality patient care of the highest caliber. The Dean represents the COM on issues of clinical and hospital partnerships and assures the continuation of strong working partnerships. In addition, the Dean builds upon relationships with critical external community partners as well as local, regional, and national government leaders.
