The School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, seeks a Chair for the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health. The Department has a long-standing distinction and a rich history of epidemiologic research and education. It houses academic programs that include three M.P.H. programs (epidemiology, environmental health and health services administration) and M.S. and Ph.D. programs in epidemiology. Within the department are two divisions, Environmental Health Sciences and Health Services Policy and Practice. The Department is part of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, which was founded in 2003 and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. The University at Buffalo is the State University of New York's largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university and is its primary center for professional education and training, as well as a member of the Association of American Universities.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in epidemiology or related discipline and/or an M.D. or other professional degree, with training in epidemiology and/or public health, or equivalent. A strong record of successful administrative leadership is desired. The candidate should also have experience in education and the ability to provide leadership for the educational program. Collaborative skills are essential. Candidate will be at the rank of full professor or with demonstrated academic experience and scholarship to be appointable at the rank of full professor with tenure.
Departmental faculty research focuses on chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, periodontal disease, diabetes, eye disease), environmental health, global health, infectious disease, women's health, genetics, nutrition, and health disparities. The Department has a history of strong collaborations with faculty across the university including with faculty from other departments in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, other Schools in the UB Academic Health Center (Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) as well as with faculty from within and outside of the University at Buffalo. Faculty also collaborate with other regional affiliated institutions, including Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the Research Institute on Addictions, other hospitals and health departments in the western NY region.
